RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). S# 385114. Mfg. 1891. This rifle is fitted with a 24" round bbl having a dovetailed German silver sporting front sight & Winchester sporting rear sight. It has the early 2-line bbl address "WINCHESTERS-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN. CT / KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." & "38 W.C.F." cal marking. The dust cover on the stepped frame is of the serrated edge type with integral central dust cover guide rail. The tang is marked with the 2nd style "MODEL 1873" upper tang marking with foliate accents. Plain trigger. Straight grip walnut stock set with smooth trapdoor crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: overall good. The barrel retains approx 20% of its original blue mostly in the protected areas with the balance having a smooth mostly even grey patina. Rec maintains 40% of its orig blue with a concentration of it remaining in the protected areas. The balance has a brownish/grey patina with the exceptions of the right side plate and dust cover. These parts were either cleaned void of finish or replacement components. Stock has been refinished quite some time ago with hand wear, small edge chips, some scratches and flaking added varnish. Fair bore has some frosting, light rifling wear and some pitting. (01-28987/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,250.
